2021-2022 ZBC Basketball Level Guidelines

3rd and 4th Grade ($100)

  1. This level is about learning the rules, skills and fundamentals of the game and getting you ready for more competitive play.
  2. All players will be placed on a team and uniforms will be provided by ZBC.
  3. Playing time will not be given based on skill, but can be dictated based on attitude and practice participation. In certain cases specific skills may be needed by position more so than others, thus playing time might differ slightly.
  4. Practice and game Expectations
  • HOV League (November) Highly Encouraged, counts as 2 tournaments
  • ~4 to 5 Tournaments; mid-October to early February
  • Practice twice weekly, 1 hr 15 mins to 1 hr 30 mins

5th through 8th Grade Basketball Opportunities (3 options!)

  1. Middle School Ball (SEPARATE REGISTRATION, not run by ZBC)
    • Season is run October 18 through early January
    • Games are usually weeknights (potential for few weekends)
      • Games start first week in November
    • Competition is local Catholic schools ball teams
    • Playing time is more equal, with attendance and attitude as key factors
  2. Zephyrs Basketball Club
    • *NEW* this year, we will have 2 different Tiers that differ by competition and playing time
      • All SMCS players will be required to play Tier I in order to play Tier II 
      • Those from other schools will be dependent on length of their school season
    • *NEW* Uniforms will be purchased and kept by players. Cost is ≈ $44. You can use these uniforms throughout ZBC basketball career. More information to come on ordering.
    • Tier I - This will tailor to more local, small school tournaments
      • Equitable, not equal, playing time equally determined by skill, attendance, and attitude.
      • Season will go from early January to mid-February
        • Grade 5 and 6 at least 3 weekend tournaments - $80
        • Grade 7 and 8 at least 4 weekend tournaments - $100
      • Practice will be 1 1/2 hours each
        • Grade 5 and 6 will practice 2 to 3 times weekly
        • Grade 7 and 8 will practice 3 to 4 times weekly
    • Tier II - Competitive: May tailor to "A" Level and State Tournament or appropriate competitiveness level for the team
      • Teams will play to win/be competitive, playing time will be less equitable and more based on skill
      • Season will be from mid-February to late March
        • Grade 5 and 6 at least 2 weekend tournaments - $60
        • Grade 7 and 8 at least 3 weekend tournaments - $80
      • Practice will be 1 1/2 hours each
        • Grade 5 and 6  will practice 2 to 3 times weekly
        • Grade 7 and 8 will practice 3 to 4 times weekly

OVERVIEW

The Zephyrs Basketball Club (ZBC) is designed to give students an opportunity to play basketball games outside the regular school season and to prepare them for the future. ZBC is run by a volunteer sub-committee of the Board of Trustees and Zephyrs Basketball Club. 

GOALS

The goal is to offer prospective SMCHS students an opportunity to excel at competitive basketball and develop individual and team skills that also foster positive attitudes and teamwork.

ELIGIBILITY

Zephyrs Basketball Club teams are intended as a feeder program for the SMCHS girls and boys basketball programs. Players eligible for the Zephyrs Basketball Club include:

  • Registered students of SMCS and/or Non-SMCS students who have a high interest in coming to SMCHS
  • Students should not be participating in other travel/club programs at the same time of ZBC season as it is expected ZBC will have full commitment of player's basketball interest during season and, if not may be grounds for dismissal.
